According to ESPN, the Saints are prohibited from using their franchise tag on the veteran quarterback next offseason due to a clause in his contract.

Limited Roger Maris Jersey Brees is entering the final year of his contract after signing a one-year extension worth $24.25 million last September. Brees disclosed earlier this summer that his focus isn’t on negotiating a new deal.

Right now [no discussions are taking place]. I don’t expect them to. I don’t really desire them to, Brees said in July. I just want to play football and help this team win.

Brees, 38, led the NFL in passing for the seventh time last season with 5,208 yards, in addition to 37 touchdowns and 15 interceptions, while completing 70 percent of his passes.

The Saints are scheduled to open the regular season Monday night against the Vikings.

Todd Gurley, RB, Los Angeles Rams: In one sense, he was a winner, scoring 20.6 PPR fantasy points on Sunday, his best single-game performance since 2016 Week 3 and fifth best in his 30 career NFL contests.

Ty Montgomery, RB, Green Bay Packers: He scored 19.3 PPR fantasy points in his season debut, the third-best single-game performance of his career, but the greater takeaway was that he set a new personal best for rushing attempts (19) despite missing a handful of snaps due to a leg injury. Montgomery did return to the game and looked fine, so he’s locked in as a weekly RB2.
